It is the TS ISO / IEC 15408 standard, also known as the unique Common Criteria, used to identify and document security levels of information technology products. This standard specifies the level of guarantee depending on the safety function of a product or system. The said series standards consist of the following parts:

• ISO / IEC 15408-1 Information technology - Security techniques - Evaluation criteria for information technology security - Part 1: Introduction and general model. In this section an introduction to the Common Criteria document is introduced and a general evaluation model is presented.

• ISO / IEC 15408-2 Information technology - Security techniques - Evaluation criteria for information technology security - Safety functional components This section specifies the security requirements for the product or system.

• ISO / IEC 15408-3 Information technology - Security techniques - Evaluation criteria for information technology security - Security guarantee components. In this final section, the product or system has security guarantee requirements.

There are 7 evaluation assurance levels (EAL) in common criteria. EAL7 is the highest level of assurance while EAL1 is the lowest guarantee level.
